ASCRS LogoThe ASCRS congratulates the following members who were recently honored in the news:

  • Being a Woman Surgeon, a book featuring the poignant essays of sixty female surgeons, was published this past spring, with contributions from ASCRS members Amanda Hayman, MD, MPH; Anjali Kumar, MD, MPH; Kate Khalifeh, MD; and Maria Basile, MD.
  • At the 2015 European Society of Coloproctology meeting in Dublin, Steven Wexner, MD, was given the distinction of honorary fellow. Dr. Wexner is president of the Research Foundation Board and chair of the Rectal Cancer Coordinating Committee.
  • Matthew Mutch, MD, has been appointed chief of colon and rectal surgery in the Department of Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. Dr. Mutch is chair of ASCRS’s Self-Assessment Committee.
  • The Medical Society of Virginia installed Arthur Vayer Jr., MD, of Sentara Surgery Specialists in Sentara, VA, as vice speaker in October.
  • Scott Steele, MD, is now division chief of colorectal surgery at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, OH. Dr. Steele is chair of the Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee, co-vice chair of the Program Committee, and advisor to the CREST Committee.
