DC&R Journal Earns Record-High Impact Factor

Dr. Robert MadoffThe Society’s journal, Diseases of the Colon & Rectum (DC&R), has achieved a new record-high impact factor of 3.749 for 2014, a substantial increase over the journal’s previous record impact factor of 3.336 in 2012, Editor-in-Chief Robert D. Madoff, MD, of Minneapolis, MN, reports.

According to Dr. Madoff, “The increase in DC&R’s impact factor is attributable to the high quality of papers that we are receiving and a highly selective editorial process that focuses on publishing only papers of the best quality.”

A journal’s impact factor is a measure of quality based on total number of citations and articles published. The journal now ranks 18 of 198 titles in the surgery category and 22 of 76 titles in the gastroenterology and hepatology category, both improvements over the previous year.

DC&R continues to improve both its scientific quality and subscriber accessibility. Its impact factor has steadily risen over the past decade to our new historic high of 3.749,” Dr. Madoff said.

“We have made substantial strides forward with improvements to our social media presence and web content. Monthly podcasts regarding selected DC&R articles have been initiated under the direction of Drs. Scott Steele and Kyle Cologne. Dr. David Margolin is leading our effort to further enhance the journal’s website and to improve our interface with the ASCRS website to maximize traffic at each site. Dr. Joshua Bleier has taken on the task of improving our social media efforts, initially using Twitter and Facebook.”

“Our overarching goal has been to publish the most important and relevant material for our readers, with a constant focus on high quality. Our rising impact factor provides objective evidence that this approach has been working well,” he concludes.

DC&R leadership updates
The editor-in-chief announced the retirement of P. Ronan O’Connell as associate editor, thanking him for his “tireless efforts on the journal’s behalf,” and appointment of six new associate editors. New associate editors are Drs. Karim Alavi, Sean Glasgow, Imran Hassan, Alexander Heriot, Andrew Hill, and David Stewart.

Dr. Madoff’s leadership team includes Co-Editors Drs. W. Donald Buie, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Thomas E. Read, Burlington, MA; Current Status Dr. Kelli Bullard Dunn, Louisville, KY; Self-Assessment and Web Editor Dr. David A. Margolin, New Orleans, LA; Media Reviews and For Debate Dr. John R.T. Monson, Rochester, NY; and Dynamic Articles Dr. Scott R. Steele, Ft. Lewis, WA.
