New Technologies Committee completes online survey of single-incision laparoscopic colorectal procedures
The New Technologies Committee under the auspices of Dr. Peter Marcello, Boston, MA, has completed an online survey of single-incision laparoscopic colorectal procedures to evaluate the usage, technical difficulties, and learning curve in this procedure. A PowerPoint presentation reporting the results has been posted on the ASCRS Website and is available for download. A narrated version is available via link to a YouTube video in which Committee Vice Chair Dr. Eric M. Haas, Houston, TX, explains the survey’s findings.
The survey covers 205 separate cases. The study includes details on the number of single-incision laparoscopic colectomies the primary surgeons had performed, the primary incision location, the device used, the number and type of conversions, the type of resection performed, and other peri-op data.
“We believe the survey results will be very useful for our membership as they consider the pros and cons of single incision surgery,” says Committee Chair Dr. Sonia L. Ramamoorthy, La Jolla, CA. “It’s always meaningful to learn from others’ experience and to know what other colorectal surgeons are doing across the country.”
