ASCRS Past President Dr. J. Byron Gathright, Jr., 76, died August 28, in the Ochsner Clinic Foundation Hospital in New Orleans, LA., two weeks after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke. An In Memoriam tribute may be found on the ASCRS website.

“Dr. Gathright was a major force in colorectal surgery and the ASCRS. He had international influence and it is difficult to cover his many accomplishments and contributions. He was a respected surgeon, advisor, and friend. His experience and mentoring will be missed,” said ASCRS President Dr. David E. Beck, a longtime colleague of Dr. Gathright’s at Ochsner.

Dr. Gathright is survived by his wife, Barbara, and their four children.
