| Supporters contribute $129,615 during 2010 Research Foundation Fundraiser |
The Research Foundation raised $129,615 during the 6th annual “Meet the Challenge” program, surpassing its original goal by nearly $40,000.
Three corporate supporters – Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Covidien and Genzyme Biosurgery – agreed to pledge a total of $45,000 for the 2010 fundraiser. The goal was for ASCRS members to match this amount, thereby raising $90,000 to support Research Foundation grants and awards. |
Society members contributed $74,265 in cash donations and another $10,350 in pledges to the Foundation fundraiser, which raised nearly $130,000 for colorectal disease research.

Society members instead contributed $74,265 in cash donations and another $10,350 in pledges, raising nearly $130,000. This funding will be used to support Limited Project Grants, Career Development Awards, Medical Student and General Surgery Resident Research Initiation Grants, the International Fellowship and the Norman Nigro Research Lecture. It will also support the Request for Proposal for Clinical Studies on Benign Colorectal Disorders program.
The evening’s silent auction raised an additional $13,000 for the Foundation. Prizes were furnished by 12 regional colon and rectal societies, the Colon Cancer Coalition, and Colon & Rectal Surgery Associates, an independent practice serving the Twin Cities area. Silent auction prizes included:
- Alaskan Denali National Park Tour – Pennsylvania Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
- New Orleans Saints helmet autographed by Drew Brees – Southern California Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons.
- Wine of the Month Club (One-year membership) – Chicago Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
- Flowering Plant of the Month Club (One-year membership) – Chesapeake Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
